Local Statistical Snapshot

• In Dallas the Bulldog bucked the national trend by dropping off the list - it went from 8th place in 2006 to 11th in 2007.
• One of the new breeds making its way into Dallas' list is the Rottweiler, which jumped 5 slots from 13th in 2006 to tie with the Miniature Schnauzer for 8th in 2007.
• Joining the Rottweiler in its Top 10 debut is the Pomeranian which leapt from 14th in 2006 to 10th in 2007.  The Pomeranian is 13th nationally.
• The 5th most popular nationwide breed - the Beagle - is only 16th in Dallas while the local 5th place spot belongs to the lively Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (ranked 25th nationally). 
• The Boxer slid 2 places to 6th in 2007 while the Poodle dropped off the Top 10 list into 12th place. 
• Dallasonians can see and learn more about their favorite breeds on Saturday, February 2 when the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship - where country's top dogs compete for $225,000 in prize money and the title of "National Champion" - airs on Animal Planet from 8-11pm.
• Local residents will enjoy cheering on one of their own - Cavalier King Charles Spaniel "Ch Hurleaze Bristol Blue." Owned by Dallas residents, "Bristol" will compete for Best in Show and $50,000.

"It's exciting to see the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in fifth place in Dallas," says AKC spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "This is one of the highest rankings for the breed in any major U.S. city. This lovable toy dog makes a great companion and its popularity has been on the rise nationwide for the past decade."
